New Overwatch Update: Release Date, News about Sigma

This week Overwatch will receive a new update, featuring the addition of the Role Queue system beta to Play Station 4, Xbox One and PC. Gamers worldwide are wondering whether this update will add the greatly awaited character Sigma or not.

Launch date

The new update will be available starting August 13, and the new patch is expected to arrive between 6pm and 8pm in the United Kingdom, therefore the United States launch will happen earlier.

The new update could see the launch of the new hero Sigma, who has been in PTR testing lately.

The update will be the first step in launching the new Role Queue system on live servers.

The Role Queue beta is set to last until September 1.

The plan for the new beta is to run for two weeks as part of a seasonal play, so it won’t be available in Quick Play. This also means that Competitive Season 17 has been shortened by about two weeks to make room for the Role Queue Beta Season.

Highlights

Here are some highlights posted by the developers:

“Players can earn Competitive Points similar to other competitive mini-seasons and qualify for Top 500 Leaderboards during the beta season”

“The matchmaking system will then match two tanks, two supports, and two damage heroes to create a team, and upon entering the match, players will select heroes within their chosen roles”

“In Quick Play, the Role Queue system will allow us to determine each player’s matchmaking rating (MMR) on a per-role basis. This enables us to matchmake Quick Play games based on the MMR for each player’s chosen role.”

It’s unclear if Blizzard will launch Sigma at the same time as the Role Queue Season Beta will roll out. Soon enough we will learn if the new hero will be released on September 1.
